Job Description

Reading/Social Content Studies Specialist

The Reading/Social Content Studies Specialist will be responsible for working with the Executive Director of Curriculum, principals, coaches/interventionist and teachers to oversee and support the implementation of the district's literacy action plan. Essential duties and responsibilities include supporting all students graduating college and career ready, working closely with the Executive Director, Principals, Coaches and teachers to review, analyze, and present student literacy assessment data, assisting in identifying school-based literacy goals, improving the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) for students, designing professional development opportunities in the use of a standards of practice framework for literacy/social studies instruction, progress monitoring and horizontal and vertical curriculum alignment, actively striving for cultural competence and equity in curriculum, instruction and assessment, effectively presenting information and responding to questions from supervisor, staff and public, modeling use of a standards of practice framework during literacy instruction, modeling high-quality first instruction in classrooms, based on annual literacy goals, facilitating instructional practice, data management, and scheduling to meet MTSS and school improvement goals, performing assigned responsibilities within designated time limits, writing routine reports and correspondence, maintaining positive professional interactions with students and other education personnel, maintaining confidentiality regarding student records, as well as student's personal and family matters, following school district's policies and procedures, and performing such other tasks and assuming other responsibilities as the supervisor may assign.

Qualification requirements include a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, required. A Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction is preferred. Teaching experience. Holds IL Professional Educators License with endorsement in either: Reading/ELA, Social Studies, or Reading Specialist. Compensation is as per Collective Bargaining Agreement.
